DAMON Albarn has called for the BBC to bring back Top Of The Pops, which was scrapped back in 2006.
Blur, who play Hyde Park tonight to coincide with the end of the Olympics, appeared on the show throughout the Nineties, putting in iconic performances of songs including Country House, Beetlebum and Parklife.Speaking to Absolute Radio Damon said: “I miss noisy, brash bands on Top Of The Pops.
“I still live in the world where Top Of The Pops is on every Thursday, unashamedly. It would be brilliant to bring it back.”
The frontman, who once admitted to taking ecstasy while on the TV chart show, continued: “I don’t understand why it doesn’t exist any more – I never understood that decision.
“I’d like to hear new, fresh music, but just something that’s a moment, that allows people to do something that has a commercial credibility but is also not so bloody conservative. Do you know what I mean? Fun.”
He’s got a point – it’d be great for the show to return.
